Nearly two years in the making, independent singer/songwriter Jake McCoy’s debut album Music For Coffee Shops is now available. Three tracks from the album, “Far Beyond”, “Winding Roads”, and “Loved as a Whole”, were released two weeks prior on SoundCloud. “Far Beyond”, the first single from the album, was also recently featured on WROX 96X’s Local Music Show.
Writing, performing, and recording all the songs himself proved to be a true labor of love for the Hampton Roads, Virginia-based artist. “Making this album has really been a great experience. A lot of work and some frustration at times, but I wouldn’t change a thing.”
In addition to guitar, the album also features organ, fiddle, accordion, and double bass, all played by Jake. “The hardest part was learning how to take the whole process one step at a time instead of looking at a mountain of tasks that seemed insurmountable by one person doing this themselves.”
The album features ten original songs, capturing Jake’s multi-faceted folk-rock influences. Weaving its way from the driving title track “Music for Coffee Shops” and the stately “Before You Leave”, to the intimately inspiring “Winding Roads”, Music For Coffee Shops also features guest vocalist Grace Woody on the track “In the Summer, In the Rain”.
“I owe a lot of this to my family, friends, and fellow musicians who were incredibly supportive through it all.”
